How to Begin Homeschooling
1. Pray and Set Your Purpose
Ask God for guidance on why you want to homeschool — faith, safety, academics, flexibility, or family time. Write down your goals for your children.
2. Learn Your State Laws
Each state has different homeschool requirements.
📍 Visit HSLDA.org to check Pennsylvania or your state’s specific rules — like filing an affidavit, required subjects, or evaluations other states here in America can require different.
3. Choose a Curriculum
Pick a curriculum that matches your child’s learning style and your goals.
Examples:
-
Faith-Based: Abeka, BJU Press, Gather ’Round, The Good and the Beautiful
-
Secular: Time4Learning, Khan Academy, Easy Peasy All-in-One
4. Create a Learning Space
It doesn’t need to be fancy!
Set up a cozy table, bookshelf, and supplies. Add posters, plants, or a verse like “Train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6).
5. Plan Your Routine
Start simple — morning devotion, core subjects, breaks, lunch, creative time.
Don’t stress about following public school hours; flexibility is the beauty of homeschooling.
6. Keep Records
Document attendance, progress, field trips, and samples of work.
Use a planner, folder system, or digital tracker for easy evaluations.
7. Join a Support Group
Find local homeschool co-ops, Facebook groups, or church communities to share ideas and social activities.
8. Make Learning Fun
Include nature walks, crafts, baking, science projects, and Bible lessons. Learning can happen anywhere — even while cooking dinner!
